As a specialized liquid injection molding company, SITECH works solely with liquid silicone rubber injection molding. We have manufacturing capabilities that allow us to provide products and services that range from rapid prototyping to high volume production of precision components and parts.
There are many reasons why we choose to work exclusively with LSR via injection molding. Liquid Silicone rubber is extremely durable. With high tear and tensile strength, excellent flexibility, insulating properties (and even conductive properties), biocompatibility, and a hardness range from 5 to 80 Shore A. Molded silicone rubber will remain stable through temperatures ranging from -75°F – 400°F. LSR also resists water, oxidation, certain chemicals, bacterial growth, and will not corrode or stain other materials.
Liquid silicone injection molding (LIM), is a method of custom molding high viscosity, 2 part liquid silicone rubber (LSR). Sealed raw material, once connected to the machine, is automatically metered at a 1 to 1 ratio, along with pigment of choice, and injected into a water cooled barrel that mixes the material and keeps it from catalyzing. Material is then injected into a hot mold cavity where it cures within a matter of seconds. The mold opens, the part is removed, and the process repeats.
SITECH specializes in liquid injection molding and produces a wide array of precise, consistent, cost effective silicone keypads and components. LSR molding has several advantages, including but not limited to:
- Automation: Liquid injection molding machines automate many processes that compression molders cannot keep up with. This shortens cycle times, reduces labor intensity, and saves our customers money.
- High Volume Production: LIM machines are precision instruments. Our experienced molders have the ability to adjust settings for shot size, temperature, pressure, injection rate, and cycle time. These machines allow us to minimize waste and increase repeatability while producing often complex, yet cost-effective products. A platinum curing catalyst shortens cycle times even further and reduces the price per piece.
- Closed Loop System: Liquid injection molding utilizes a closed loop system which means the raw material is sealed and untouched until it has become a final product. Minimal risk of contamination means our customers are receiving a product with quality they can have confidence in.
